Sometimes, you need to take a day off to relax but you don’t have money to spend on a trip. You have decided to forgo travel and spend your vacation in your hometown (or even just in your home.) What should you do? Well if you want to get up off of the couch, here are some low-cost ways to make the most out of your staycation.
Be a Tourist in Your Own Town
Oftentimes, we ignore popular features of our home cities because they don’t seem as extraordinary to us as they might a tourist from another part of the world. Take a day to be a tourist in your hometown. Visit that landmark you haven’t been to since your 8th grade field trip. Eat your city’s signature dish. Bring your camera! Touring your own town is a great way to have fun on a budget.
Hang Out at the Park
Most towns have a public park. Pack yourself a book, and a picnic lunch and spend a few hours whiling away in the sun. Hanging out amongst the greenery is a great way to unwind and forget your worries.
Take in a Little League Game
Major league baseball games are expensive. Little league games are almost always free. Grab yourself some peanuts and Crackerjack and watch local kids play ball. You may be surprised by how much fun you will have.
Just Drive
Get in your car, and just drive. Don’t pick a destination. Just see where the road takes you. For the price of a tank of gas, you will experience adventure and (possibly) the unknown as you take to the open road.
Travel Through Time
Museum tickets are usually low as it is, but many museums offer even better rates to locals. Find the nearest museum and spend the day exploring the exhibits. Museums are fun, educational, and they won’t cost you an arm or a leg.
Remember: a staycation can be just as much fun as traveling and cost you a lot less money if you know where to find fun in your hometown.
